There are a number of options available and an accelerated nursing program is usually the most popular option among those who want to enter the field of medicine. Some people may not be comfortable knowing that nurses can be trained in very little time. One thing to consider is the traits of a good nurse. The skills required to be an effective nurse are not completely taught in the classroom. Some people have the natural talent to be in this field while others will never master the job no matter how many hours they spend in the classroom. Many patients have encountered the perfect nurse but few of us think about why that person was so good at his job. She probably had the ability to put you at ease in just a few words. Describing such qualities in your caregiver is often difficult.
There is something about the person that helps you through the difficult situation but you are not sure what it is. Of course, an accelerated nursing program does not go into depth on developing such qualities. Now consider your worst encounter with a nurse. She was probably abrasive and indifferent. She may have made you feel as if you were a burden. Studies show the benefits of nursing are tremendous, not only to our baby but to ourselves and in our relationship with our baby.
I nursed both my babies, and I loved it. It was the best choice for my babies and for me. They will let you know when they are hungry and rather loudly at that. As a nursing mom we are sometimes made to feel uncomfortable nursing in public places. Cold stares from others in restaurants, snide comments made under their breathe regarding you nursing your hungry baby in public or even worse asked to leave or to feed our babies in the restrooms at public places. But incidents like this do happen.
And sometimes we just don’t know how to react or respond to some statements. Then one day, I got MAD! There are legal rights that all nursing moms and nursing babies have. We have the right to nurse our babies anywhere they have a right to be. The law is on your side. Knowing I had rights gave me the confidence to nurse whenever and wherever my babies needed to eat. In this regard, they work in extremely demanding jobs: both in terms of the jobs they do and the hours on the job they spend. Notwithstanding this, many would like to advance their careers. To do this, nurses nearly always need to spend time studying.
But, as we have said, nurses’ free time is a premium – so how can a nurse combine study with work, when there is (a) so little time available; and (b) unfixed shift-hours to work?
